Developing a Good Oral Care Routine

Oral hygiene involves not only your teeth but practically everything inside your mouth. Building an oral hygiene routine is an absolute necessity. To help you build a routine that you can easily follow and maintain, here are some easy tips.

Brushing

The most obvious routine that you should have developed by now (especially if you are an adult) is brushing. The American Dental Association strongly recommends a technique in which the brush is at a 45-degree angle accompanied by short back and forth movements for the tops and sides of teeth. The backs and fronts require shorter strokes to prevent plaque formation.

Brushing should last at least two minutes and be repeated at a minimum of twice each day. To ensure that you are not transferring bacteria from your toothbrush into your mouth you need to keep it clean. This means rinsing and air-drying it after every use. Over time, the bristles will deteriorate so you have to replace the toothbrush roughly every quarter to maintain proper oral hygiene.

Flossing

Part of your routine should include flossing to clear any remaining debris and germs between your teeth. When flossing, maintain a letter C shape motion that allows the floss to fully rub against each tooth.

Dental Visits

Dentists and hygienists are most equipped to give your mouth the complete oral care it needs. Ideally, you should have dental visits biannually that should become more frequent when you are faced with dental problems. Other Helpful Tips

You may not be able to keep your teeth your entire life, but you can extend their lifespan by maintaining a good oral hygiene routine. Your routine should likewise include:
